Third Astrophotography Contest of the IAU Office of Astronomy for Education (2023)

The third educational astrophotography contest has been announced by the IAU Office of Astronomy for Education (OAE). Astronomy is a powerful "gateway science," and astronomical images are useful for education. Images must be accessible as open educational resources for maximum impact. The OAE aims to expand its foundational collection of high-quality educational resources under free license while supporting and recognizing the work of those who contribute to it. The first and second times this contest was held, it was a huge success.

Whether you're a seasoned amateur astronomer or just starting out, this contest is for you. Images can be submitted by participants in the following categories: phases of Venus, day arcs of the Sun and solar graphs, sunrise and sunset location over the year, and images of any astronomical object taken exclusively with smartphones/mobile devices. Time-lapse videos can be submitted under the category Rotation of Big Dipper or Southern Cross.

Deadline: noon CET on June 30, 2023.

An international panel of astrophotographers and educators of astronomy will evaluate the aesthetic and technical qualities of image, as well as their educational value in primary and secondary education, while evaluatings the entries. The winners will receive cash prizes, and teachers and students around the world will be able to access their images as Open Educational Resources.
